ABOUT TORAICHI

Message

“FUKU YO HATARAKE”

The name Toraichi is said to have originated from the “Toraichi-maru,” a Kitamae trading ship that connected Osaka and Ezo (present-day Hokkaido) during the Edo period—a time when these ships played a vital role in driving Japan’s economy.
At that time, a single voyage loaded with cargo could yield a profit of 1,000 ryō — equivalent to nearly 100 million yen today.
Young apprentices would board these ships, work tirelessly, and through sheer effort and skill, rise to become captains and eventually shipowners.
No doubt, the Toraichimaru carried many such ambitious young individuals striving to build their own empires through talent and determination.
Today, Toraichi continues to grow as a company that creates workwear for those who labor with their own hands.
Our approach to manufacturing always begins with a deep consideration of the needs of working people. Above all, our products must be durable and safe. We meticulously pursue usability down to the smallest details—such as pocket placement and depth, and whether to include zippers.
From fabric selection to cutting and sewing techniques, the number of things we consider is truly endless.
Alongside our unwavering focus on functionality, there is another value we hold dear: individuality. Craftsmen who take pride in their skills and experience also value their own personal style.
Bold designs and eye-catching colors are our way of honoring the pride of those who make their way in the world with their own two hands.
Recently, more and more people abroad have begun wearing our garments in everyday urban settings. It may be that our refined functional beauty and distinctive designs are being embraced around the world.
Craftsmen don’t work in air-conditioned offices—they work outdoors, often in harsh environments. That’s why Toraichi workwear stands with them, striving to perform just as tirelessly as they do, through its functionality and design.
